What Lernok collects, why we need it, and the choices families have.

THE SHORT VERSION

Lernok is a learning app for children. We collect the least we can: an email address to sign in, a chosen name, an age range, and what the learner does in lessons.

We do not show ads, sell data, record the screen, or track children’s clicks around the app. We never ask for a microphone, camera, or location.

A parent or guardian agrees to this before an account is created, and can delete the account and everything in it at any time from the Me tab.

Who we are

Lernok is an online learning service for children aged roughly 10 to 16, operated by Nehal Joshi, Pune, India. We decide what data is collected and why, which makes us responsible for looking after it.

What we collect

  • Account details — an email address, and either a password or a Google sign-in. These are handled by our sign-in provider; we never see or store a password.
  • Access and purchase records — whether the account is using limited free access or paid annual access, the paid-until date, and the payment reference or status needed to unlock and support access.
  • Profile — the name the learner chooses, an age range rather than a date of birth, and the topics they say they are interested in.
  • Learning activity — lessons opened and finished, quiz answers, attempts, XP, streak, active days, topics due for review, and course progress.
  • Written answers — text typed into open answer boxes inside lessons.
  • Technical information — IP address, browser and device type, and pages viewed. Our providers may infer an approximate city from an IP address.
  • Error reports — diagnostic details about a failure so we can fix it.
  • Deletion feedback — if an account is deleted, the reason chosen and the XP at that moment. This is stored without a link back to the person.

What we never do

  • No advertising, ad networks, or sharing with advertisers.
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data. Ever.
  • No session recording — we do not film or replay what happens on the screen.
  • No click-level behavioural tracking once a learner is signed in. This is switched off deliberately because our users are children.
  • No access to microphone, camera, photos, contacts, or precise location. The app never asks for these permissions.
  • No card, UPI, or bank details stored by Lernok — paid annual access is handled by our payment provider.

Why we use it

  • To run the account and keep progress safe across devices.
  • To personalise which course is suggested and what comes next.
  • To schedule topics for review at the right moment.
  • To find and fix crashes and broken lessons.
  • To understand whether Lernok helps — which lessons are too hard, where learners get stuck, and whether they come back.
  • To respond when a learner or guardian contacts us.

We rely on the consent given by a parent or guardian when the account is created. That consent can be withdrawn at any time by deleting the account.

Who else handles it

We use a small number of specialist providers to run Lernok. They may only process data on our instructions, for the purpose listed.

  • Clerk — accounts and sign-in. United States.
  • Neon — the database holding profile and learning progress. Singapore.
  • Google Cloud — hosting and delivery of the app from asia-southeast1 in Singapore.
  • Sentry — error diagnostics when something breaks. United States.
  • PostHog — product analytics, limited to page views and a few specific events. United States.
  • Razorpay — payment checkout and payment confirmation for paid annual access. India.
  • jsDelivr — a public code network that delivers the Python engine used by coding labs. It receives the file request and IP address; no account or learning data is sent.

The main record of a learner’s profile and progress is stored in Singapore, and the app is hosted and delivered from Google Cloud’s asia-southeast1 region in Singapore. Sign-in, error diagnostics, and analytics are handled in the United States. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

A small number of Lernok staff can see learner accounts and progress through an internal dashboard. This is used to run the service, spot lessons that are not working, and help when someone reports a problem.

How long we keep it

  • Profile and learning data are kept for as long as the account exists, and are deleted when the account is deleted.
  • Error reports and analytics are kept for a limited period under each provider’s retention settings, then removed.
  • Deletion feedback is kept indefinitely because it carries no identifying information.

Your rights and choices

A learner or guardian can ask us to show them the data we hold, correct anything that is wrong, delete the account and its data, or withdraw consent. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

  • Delete everything yourself — open the Me tab and choose “Delete my account”. This removes the account and all learning data. It cannot be undone.
  • Anything else — email hello@lernok.com and we will respond.

Children and guardian consent

Lernok is built for children, and everyone using it is under 18. A parent or guardian must review this policy and the Terms of Use and confirm they agree before an account is created. We ask for that confirmation during sign-up, alongside a statement that the person confirming is the learner’s parent or guardian.

We do not carry out behavioural monitoring of children, profile them, or run targeted advertising. A guardian may contact us at any time to see what we hold about their child, correct it, or have it deleted.

Keeping it safe

Data is encrypted while travelling between the app and our servers. Passwords are handled entirely by our sign-in provider and never reach us. Access to learner data is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No online service can promise perfect security, but if a breach affects personal data we will notify those affected and the relevant authority as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change, we will publish the updated policy here with a new version number and ask a parent or guardian to agree again the next time they open Lernok. Small corrections that do not change the substance will simply appear here.

Contact us

Questions, requests, or complaints about privacy can go to hello@lernok.com. Our nominated contact for data protection queries is Nehal Joshi.
